John and Barb married
in Manhattan,
Kansas. That June, Barb had returned to Manhattan from Grand
Junction, Colorado, where she had been teaching 4th Grade. She had
planned to spend the summer in Manhattan with her parents prior to moving to Kansas
City to accept a new
teaching position there. John had just graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant from
Army Infantry Officers Candidate School at Fort
Benning, Georgia, and was assigned to Fort
Riley, Kansas when he rented a basement apartment in a house across the street from where Barb's parents lived in Manhattan.
The rest is history . . . we met in June, married in September, and moved to Abilene,
Kansas where Barb had
secured a new teaching assignment at Garfield Elementary

School after
getting out of her Kansas City contract. John left for Vietnam in
December. We saw each other for a few short days in August on R&R in Hawaii,
then John returned to Vietnam to complete his tour and safely return to the
good old U.S.A. in December 1970 just in time for Christmas. We lived in
Abilene for 14 years, moving to Omaha in
1983 when John accepted a promotion to management with his then employer,
Schering-Plough Corporation. Barb taught in the Millard Public Schools in
Omaha from 1983 to 2007.
The first
addition to our family was a daughter, Jessica,
born in 1974; a second daughter, Rachael,
was born in 1978. Jessica and her husband, Jason Neal, were married in Houston,
Texas at the River
Oaks Garden Club on March 20th, 2004.
John and Barb live in Corte Bella Country Club located in the Northwest
Valley of the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area. Jessica and Jason reside
in Houston, Texas, and Rachael lives in Lincoln, Nebraska.
